7 Gold Gigablox: Slot Overview

It might seem like Yggdrasil Gaming's Gigablox mechanic has been shared more times than Charlie Schmidt's Keyboard Cat! video, but some studios have done some pretty exciting stuff with it. One team which has pushed the machine to an extreme degree is software provider 4ThePlayer. A classic example is 90K Yeti Gigablox, which was a huge expansion over an earlier slot of theirs called 9K Yeti. The team is back on the blox, with an online slot titled 7 Gold Gigablox. This one might not have the theme originality that the Yeti release had, yet it is packed to the rafters with features and almost as monstrous potential.

It's a long way from the snowstorms at the roof of the world to the more traditional slot-based confines players find themselves in for 7 Gold Gigablox. The studio has gone funky Vegas this time around and done it quite well; it might be added. The action is presented on a 6x6 game grid, with a prize ladder sitting on one side, a bonus buy button on the other side, and a ways counter in the top right corner. Behind the active area is a sparkling crimson background putting on a bit of a light show, while a rhythmical EDM track completes the sonic side of the bargain. It's not a game that sinks massive hooks in artistically, but there's plenty left to discover, giving 7 Gold Gigablox more depth.

First things first, players pick a stake of 10 p/c to $/€10 per spin to get the ball rolling on a tablet, mobile, or desktop device. Diving into the maths a bit, the game is extremely volatile, and playing in a regular manner, rather than buying free spins, offers a default RTP of 96% (this can be lower depending on where you play). Hitting the play button sets the grid in motion, and at random, reels may merge to create Gigablox, which are symbols of 2x2, 3x3, 4x4, 5x5 or 6x6 in size - Gigablox are split into 1x1 parts for win calculations.

All told, it is possible to have up to 46,656 ways to win, but in the base game, ways can be lower because Glass symbols randomly appear on the grid as well. Glass Symbols have no value; they're just blocker tiles, really. Symbols which do have values are clubs, diamonds, hearts, spades, clovers, cherries, dice, chips, bells, gold bars, and dollar sign tiles. These pay up to 0.4 to 2 times the stake for a six-of-a-kind win. Star wilds may help with this, as they are capable of substituting for anything except the scatter.

7 Gold Gigablox: Slot Features

The features accompanying 7 Gold Gigablox are similar to those found in 90K Yeti and includes three In-Reel features (Lights Reveal, Light Shuffle, Giga Summon), free spins, the Gold 7 Ladder, plus a bonus buy.

In-Reel Features

The first of the In-Reel features is the Lights Reveal, which can randomly occur on any base game spin. When active, any Glass symbols transform to reveal other symbols to guarantee a win. Then there's the randomly occurring Lights Shuffle, which shuffles the reels to create a win, and the random Giga Summon, which summons a Gigablox reel of at least 4x4 in size.

Free Spins

Landing at least 5 or more scatter symbols triggers free spins. The number of free spins awarded is equal to the number of triggering scatters. During the bonus round, Glass symbols are removed from the reels, and at least 1 Lights Shuffle or Giga Summons is guaranteed to trigger. Each scatter that lands in free spins adds +1 spin to the remaining amount.

Gold 7 Ladder Feature

The Gold 7 scatter symbol is the cornerstone of this feature. Collecting at least 5 of them on a spin results in a cash prize win. Should 5, 6, 7-8, 9-11, 12-15, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-25, or 36 Gold 8 Symbols be collected, players win 1x, 5x, 15x, 30x, 100x, 300x, 1,000x, 3,000x, 10,000x, or 70,000x the bet, respectively.

Buy Feature

Where available, the Buy feature menu has four options to choose from. Players can buy 5, 10, or 20 free spins for 60x, 120x, or 240x the bet, or buy a Giga Summon spin for 150x the bet. Be aware, Glass Symbols can appear on Giga Summons.

7 Gold Gigablox: Slot Verdict

7 Gold Gigablox might not be as exotic as its 90K Yeti cousin, but the action is no less intense. Not saying it's a must, yet Gigablox does seem to work well with a win-all-ways system, as it does here. Obviously, symbol values take a knock in the trade-off for there being so many ways to (potentially) win. The effect is lessened in the base game due to Glass symbols cluttering up the joint, though they're not necessarily a mood killer. If anything, it makes triggering free spins even more of a thrill since all traces of Glass symbols are removed, and every spin delivers the full number of ways.

The three In-Reel features compliment the gaming, as well. Players are guaranteed at least one to trigger in free spins, with an overall enhanced possibility of hitting Giga Summon or Lights Shuffle. Two of the In-Reel features guarantee a win which is a nice touch, and the results could be decent. If you've seen the $75,000 win achieved from 90K Yeti, you'll know how ludicrously good a well-placed Gigablox tile alongside matching symbols can be. 7 Gold Gigablox doesn't pack the same stellar level of winning potential as the previous one did, yet at 70,000x the bet, few are likely to feel too short-changed about the decrease.

To be a bit snarky, 7 Gold Gigablox could be accused of regurgitating what preceded it, including a next next-level version of the popular scatter collection cash prize ladder à la 9 Masks of Fire. To add to this, the audiovisual presentation is somewhat mediocre compared to what we've been spoiled with these days, and both visuals and sound effects could need some more love. There is a kernel of truth to all that, but does it really matter? 4ThePlayer has helpfully stacked 7 Gold Gigablox with useful information and stats; the features fire as well here as they did in 90K Yeti, the vibe is pretty darn funky, and the potential rewards are rather alluring indeed.

Good

7 Gold Gigablox is a solid 4ThePlayer release that benefits from its super ambitions, even if it doesn’t completely live up to them.
