Amazon Kingdom: Slot Overview

Seeing the words Amazon Kingdom, one of the first things that came to mind was a mental image of Jeff Bezos, sitting in a palace while drones delivered consumer goods across the planet - and beyond, as Blue Origin spread the joys of online shopping to the stars. Developer Just For The Win clearly had other ideas. Amazon Kingdom is a follow up to Scarab Kingdom and sees players head to South America to try their luck with a varied list of new and old features.

Presumably, the kingdom in this game relates to the Incas, as their empire clung to the west coast of Peru and Chile while bordering the Amazon Rainforest. However, we also came across an article in Nature magazine describing a large pre-Columbian settlement recently discovered in southern Amazonia. Maybe Amazon Kingdom celebrates this find? Either way, players are transported to a tropical country full of bright green bush and elaborate building works in the background. The design follows a classical Aztec/Inca look found in online slots, as does the panpipe, rhythmical drumming-based soundtrack, creating a homely vibe if this is your scene.

A highly volatile game, the events in Amazon Kingdom take place on a 5-reel, 4-row game grid, sporting 30 fixed paylines. These fire off a win when at least two of the character symbols land in adjacent reels from the left-hand side or three of anything else. Amazon Kingdom's features broadly follow Scarab Kingdom, and many of the extra bits are the same. Not exactly the same, as a few alterations have been made to one or two of the details, but if you've played the earlier Egyptian themed game, you will have a good idea of what's going to happen here.

Bonus Symbols

Bonus symbols appear in the base game, and each reel has a Bonus Holder above it. When a bonus symbol lands, it is added to its corresponding Bonus Holder. Collecting 3 Bonus Symbols on a single reel activates the Wild Scroll feature for that reel. Also, when collecting at least 1 Bonus Symbol, there is a chance the Queen's Bonus feature is triggered.

Wild Scrolls

Wild Scrolls are available in the base game and the two bonus rounds. When activated in the base game, a Wild Scroll symbol is placed on the top row of the reel. On each following spin, the Wild Scroll expands down one position on the reel. Once the Wild Scroll reaches the bottom row after covering all positions on its reel, it is removed on the next spin.

Queen's Bonus

When triggered, 12 gold coins are displayed on the screen. Players pick coins one by one until 3 identical cash prize symbols are uncovered. These symbols represent four prizes worth 15x, 40x, 200, and 5,000x the bet.

Free Spins

Free Spins symbols are present on reels 2, 3, and 4 in the base game. Landing all 3 of them triggers the regular free spins bonus round. During this round, all wins are multiplied by x2, and a Wild Scroll is placed on reel 3 at the start of the round. Players do not receive a set number of free spins. Amazon Kingdom: Slot Verdict

Unless you've extensively played Scarab Kingdom, the difference between the two games might not be overly apparent. And to be honest, they aren't major differences, but more a shuffling around of what was already there. Max win has remained the same, as has the overall feel to the game (excluding the theme change, of course), so if you liked the previous slot, it stands to reason Amazon Kingdom should appeal as well. By feel, what we mean is that Amazon Kingdom has the same pacy action, where features are frequent, and the collection opportunities help you stick around a bit longer than if they weren't there. The visuals weren't as stunning this time, nor was the soundtrack as groovy, but the rest of Amazon Kingdom is about on par with its Scarab cousin.

So what's new? Delving into the details separates the two games, with one of the main differences being the new Super version of free spins. Also before, players collected scarabs to trigger Cleo's Bonus, whereas now the Queen's Bonus just triggers randomly following a scatter collect. Both cash prize Bonus rounds come with the same quartet of prizes, meaning Amazon Kingdom has the same winning potential of 5,000x the bet. To get a bit controversial, having a Super version of Free Spins might not be as super as it first appears to be. Players do benefit from an x5 multiplier, but the previous game had a progressive win multiplier that increased by +1 on each spin, whether it was a winner or not. Much of a muchness?

Since Amazon Kingdom is a form of a sequel, it loses some of the newness-factor Scarab Kingdom possessed. It wasn't as striking visually or sonically either though some may prefer the jungle to the desert. Picking one game over the other really comes down to how you would prefer to theoretically collect winnings during free spins, as each game provides slightly different ways of landing up in pretty much the same spot.
