Diamond Fruits Megaclusters: Slot Overview

Diamond Fruits Megaclusters makes you wonder if Big Time Gaming overheard someone say they'd seen it all when it comes to fruit slots and took it as a personal challenge. What came out the other side is a fruit slot powered by BTG's Megaclusters mechanic, drenched in psychedelia and colours. It might look like a Wonka product, and sure, the first few spins can be disorientating, but beneath the gloss is a game that operates to a fairly straightforward set of rules, just one decked out in all sorts of dazzling accessories.

The first impression was of a disco version of Star Clusters Megaclusters, since both have a vaguely similar feel. However, where Star Clusters was a little plain, Diamond Fruits is one of those characters that rolls into a club and wants all eyes on them. To achieve this, they've dressed in the showiest digs they could find from the thrift shop, and instead of walking, they roller skate in backwards, blowing kisses at the masses. Hit spin, and the flamboyance is dialled up another notch as Diamond Fruit breaks the fourth wall, dropping symbols onto the grid from above, as if bursting from players' foreheads like glitter at the Rio Carnival.

Perhaps even stranger than the Fourways Reaction system the game utilises (more on that further below) is the set of numbers Diamond Fruits manages to generate. Far from being a cluster paying maniac, the math model is (slightly) subdued on a medium-high volatile setting, while potential is surprisingly modest for Big Time Gaming. On the other hand, RTP is steady at 96.23%, and the game is playable on all devices, offering stakes of 20 p/c to $/€20 per paid drop.

Hopefully, fruit's your thing as the paytable is covered in grapes, lemons, orange slices, pears, plums, watermelons, and diamonds. Cluster values aren't huge; the largest ones are made up of 25+ symbols, worth between 10x for the grapes and 50x for pears or higher. Wilds appear in any position throughout the game, replacing all pay symbols to assist in completing clusters. Wilds can hit organically or be fired onto the board from one of the features.

Diamond Fruits Megaclusters: Slot Features

Diamond Fruits certainly gets your attention and might be a bit overwhelming at first. Let's break it down. Each spin takes place on a 5x5 sized grid, where 7 to 25 of the available positions contain a larger symbol or 4 smaller ones. Winning clusters are formed when at least 5 matching symbols connect horizontally or vertically. Clusters are removed when they hit by the reaction system, and the larger symbols break into 4 smaller symbols when they are removed. Using a Fourway Reactions system, new symbols slide in from different directions to fill the gaps – north, south, east, or west. It's tricky to visualise in words, so seeing it in action is the best way to grasp the show. As for the various features...

Wild Cannon

After 3 consecutive reactions have occurred, the Wild Cannon Bonus is triggered. This one adds 5 to 15 wild symbols to random positions on the game grid. Wild Cannon is available in the base game and in free spins.

Free Spins

Should at least 7 consecutive reactions occur in the base game, 8 free spins are awarded, plus 1 extra free spin for each reaction after the seventh. In free spins, a win multiplier is introduced, starting at x1, and increasing by 1 after every reaction. If 7 consecutive reactions hit during the bonus round, +3 additional free spins are awarded, plus 1 spin for every reaction past the seventh.

Diamond Fruits Megaclusters: Slot Verdict

Have you ever stared up at the night sky, and instead of the normal, logical acknowledgement of how small earth is, you are struck by a profound, emotionally primal gut shock at just how frighteningly insignificant we actually are, leading to a cosmic overwhelmance about how enormous the universe is and our place in it, if any? The first few spins of Diamond Fruits inspired a similar sort of confusion. Symbols flew in from all directions, in various sizes, popping, blasting, removing, being replaced by smaller versions. It was like watching ants organise themselves into controlled columns to go nab food. If you want innovation, here it is, though like everything else in the vanguard, Diamond Fruits is going to be a little bit too weird for some.

Further bafflement was caused after the first significant sequence of reaction wins. A good number of them strung together, the wild cannon fired, and we just missed out on free spins, yet the reward was relatively meagre. Like Relax Gaming's Cluster Tumble, the long yet low-value cluster wins were a regular source of amazement. Some might find this a total turn off, yet it's hard to look away as well. Like constantly tonguing a wiggly tooth, you kind of want to see what will happen next.

Manage to push Diamond Fruits to free spins, and they play out in a fairly predictive manner. Namely, they're the same as the base game, with the added benefit of the progressive multiplier -which can admittedly explode due to the frequency of cluster wins. Yet the heights Diamond Fruits can climb to probably isn't as dizzying as you might presume. In a shock move, BTG has made the conscious decision to tone Diamond Fruits down rather than go nuts. To this end, the most you can win in the base game is around 250x, increasing to 6,650x the bet in free spins. Whether players are down with this cuddlier side of Big Time Gaming will be interesting to see.

After the initial dazzle wore away, Diamond Fruit came across as a collection of peripheral fireworks rather than a true paradigm shift. Strip away the visual falling fruit effects, and the odd direction changes when new symbols enter the game, the shrinking symbols, and you've got a game which functions more or less as a regular grid slot going about the business of forming clusters like the others. It's also not the game we were hoping to take Megaclusters to the next level. Still, whether you consider Diamond Fruits innovative or gimmicky, the game does conduct itself in a highly unique manner making it well worth a test run.

Good

Diamond Fruits Megaclusters is a dynamic game full of surprises, though it remains to be seen whether players will take to a more relaxed than usual math model from Big Time Gaming.
