If you're into Greek Mythology, then a trip to the Elysian Fields is probably pretty high up on the bucket list. Imagine spending your days in the presence of the titans of humanity, strumming on a lyre, philosophising, getting athletic, or whatever it is that took place there. Yggdrasil Gaming has done a good job of reflecting the majesty of such a place too. Elysian Jackpots' background is a rather inspiring display of temples, columns, verdant plant life, water, and blue skies - the Ancient Greek works. Its symbols and reel area look a little out of place by comparison, not to a completely off-putting degree, but just a tad jarring. Fortunately, the dreamy-sounding backing track helps pour back on the mystery.

The gaming area is made up of 5 reels holding 3 rows each, with 20 paylines for regular line wins to land on. Low volatile, the game comes with a non-jackpot max win of 1,265 times the bet and a maximum return to player value of 96%, out of which 3.8% of each bet is syphoned off to feed the jackpots. Stake levels vary from 10 p/c to $/€40 per spin, and as the game info puts it – 'the probability to win the Jackpot in each spin is proportional to the player's bet size,' so that's something to keep in mind.

Jackpots might be the main goal, but normal line wins occur when three or more matching symbols land across a payline on consecutive reels starting from the left. Plant-covered metallic J-A royals are the game's low symbols, paying 6.5 to 10 times the bet for five-of-a-kind, increasing to 37.5 to 200 times the stake for five of the rings, chalices, female, and male characters. The game info mentions a hit rate of 28.09%, which felt optimistic during testing as no wild symbols are on hand to help players link wins.

When a session begins, 6 keys are placed in slots that sit beneath the reels. Keys come in five different colours and collecting 5 of the same colour awards 10 free spins plus 1 Jackpot Gem. Scatter Symbol

The shield scatter appears anywhere on the board in the base game. Landing 2 of them triggers the Pick & Click Game. If at least 3 scatters land, they spin to award either the Treasure Chest Game or free spins. Landing 4 or 5 scatters awards a further 50x the bet or 500x the bet, respectively.

Pick & Click Game

A total of 5 vases appear on the screen for this feature, and players click one. The chosen vase reveals a cash prize of 1-4 times the bet, free spins, the Treasure Chest Bonus, or 1 random key.

Treasure Chest Bonus Game

Here, 3 chests appear on the screen. Players pick one chest at a time to win cash worth 5-100x the bet or a random key. This process repeats until a rock lands on the chosen chest, ending the feature.

As well as the ways mentioned above, free spins are triggered when 5 of the same key colour have been collected. Each win in free spins is multiplied by x3, and this is where it is possible to win jackpots. To do so, you will have to collect 5 gems of the same colour. When it comes to progressive jackpots, there is quite a xylophone of styles and options. On one end of the scale are heavyweights like Mega Moolah or Dream Drop, while on the other sits a game like Elysian Jackpots. Its low volatility, relatively high default RTP and specific set of features might be a match for players who like to be kept busy as they spin their way towards one of five modest jackpots. Or at least attempt to. For example, players who appreciated what a fellow slot like Jackpot Raiders offered might be on board with this one too. Or Frost Queen Jackpots, for that matter.

During testing, bonus rounds triggered quite frequently whilst also being rather low value in terms of return. It kind of felt like there was a pattern to picking chests (there's not) that could be cracked in order to progress further into the round, which was mildly amusing. A bit like one of those memory games where lights light up, and users have to press coloured buttons to play back the sequence.

The Pick & Click Game is a nifty addition, as it's somewhat rewarding to get something out of a scatter tease - occasionally, a pick could result in one of the bonus rounds triggering. For a relatively low-level progressive jackpot game, the jackpot seed values aren't too shabby. The other side of the coin is they don't get very high either; certainly don't expect a Mega Moolah-style geyser of cash to pour forth. Elysian Jackpots aims for the other end of the market with an expected fallout for the Orange Jackpot in the vicinity of €30,000.

It takes all sorts to populate a world with, and while some jackpot hunters prefer to stalk the biggest pots on the planet, others might be well content with more down-to-earth values. If so, Elysian Jackpots is a viable option, with busy gameplay to keep users occupied while they try their luck. It's certainly not the most interesting jackpot slot on the market, and most things about it are rather mediocre, but if you come across the max RTP version, giving it a try to see what it's about might not be a terrible idea.
