Multifly! (Yggdrasil Gaming): Overview

Aside from herpetologists or those with singular tastes, lizards are usually pretty low on favourite animal lists. They lack the cuteness factor that pandas, or dolphins, or puppies have. Lizards, however, are the star of the show in Yggdrasil's latest slot Multifly! and a few spins is all it takes to boost their appeal. It helps that they are chameleons with that cool colour-change ability that they have. Their main attraction though is that they can pile on multipliers which have a major effect on the outcome of a game. With a name like Multifly!, you would expect there to be plenty of that sort of action going on. Yggdrasil has created a slot with features that build on, and play off, each other. Time to jungle up and see how it works.

You don't come across too many games stacked with lizards and Yggdrasil has pulled it off in their typically stylish way. The game takes place deep in the wild and is an agreeable game to look at. Richly coloured trees wave in the breeze, while the African inspired soundtrack bobs away energetically in the background. At times, the reels are lit up with lights to celebrate or anticipate wins, and the aesthetics are of a high standard. The icning on top is that Multifly! offers some hefty rewards to go with such a cute looking game.

When it comes to the rules, Multifly! uses a conventional 5 reel, 3 row setup with 243 ways to win. As long as 3 or more matching symbols land consecutively from the first reel, you have a winner, no matter the row. The math model can be fickle, one minute it's humming along happily feeding on coins, the next it is doing its best snowball impression. These dips and dives come coutesy of an RTP of 96.3% combined with high volatility and a rather low hit rate of 17%.

The symbols are a colourful bunch and are split in to high and low pay groups. The low pays are 9-A royals, while the high pays all creatures such as a lizard, a frog, a toucan, and a parrot. An eclectic mix to be sure, with the parrot worth the most at 4 times the stake for five of a kind. That might not sound like a lot, but Multifly is a game that can pile on the wins. Part of the reason is that when winning combos land, they trigger a reel multiplier which we will take a look at below.

Multifly! (Yggdrasil Gaming): Features

As well as those win multipliers there are a bunch of other features. The most common is the Dropdown feature. This is essentially just a typical cascading win system where winning symbols are removed from the reels to let new symbols fall into place. This mechanic provides additional chances to win, and it also adds a wild symbol to the reels whenever it occurs. The Dropdown feature will continue to run until no more winners land.

On top of that, whenever a wild enters the game it triggers the Reel Multiplier feature. This occurs whether the wild lands randomly on a spin, or is added via the Dropdown feature. Each reel has its own multiplier which starts at x1. When a wild appears, the reel it is on has its multiplier increased by +1. Thanks to the Dropdown feature, multipliers can build up over several reels which are applied one by one to any winning combination. Only reels that have winning symbols on them will apply their multipliers. During the base game, multipliers are reset back to x1 with each fresh new spin.

The final feature is a round of Free Spins - when 3 scatters land simultaneously on reels 2, 3 and 4 they award 10 free spins. The rules are the same as in the base game except that the Reel Multiplier feature is not reset during free spins. This means that Dropdowns, wilds, and multipliers, can add up nicely by the time the round is over.

Multifly! (Yggdrasil Gaming): Verdict

Multifly! is one of those slots that can go from zero to hundred, and back again in an eye blink. Its high volatility and low hit rate are partly responsible, but that effect is largely due to the way its multipliers can shake up a game. For example, even if your free spins round starts off poorly, a streak of cascades can turn the tables on the very last spin. This roller coaster of frustration can go in a different direction as the build up of huge multipliers across all five reels do not guarantee big wins - you will still depend on landing five of a kind winners.

Multifly’s main drawback is that the gameplay can get a bit repetitive at times. This is partly because the bonus game is basically the main game, albeit with multipliers that don't reset. Because of that, a session can get a little pedestrian after a while. Moreover, for those who enjoy fast-paced slots, Multifly! can be perceived as rather slow as it insists on playing through its animations on every single win which you cannot skip.

On the whole, Multifly is an entertaining game with the type of clever features and potential to overcome any aversion to lizards or jungle creepy crawlies. It's one of those slots with meandering patches of not much going on, interspersed by intense bursts when it's suddenly all go. A real volatile experience – with potential of up to 10,000 times the stake available.

Great

Multifly is a dreamy high potential wildlife slot that can just as easily coast as go berserk at any moment thanks to its high volatility and multipliers.
