Sisters of Oz Jackpots: Overview

Sisters of Oz is loosely based around the classic tale The Wizard of Oz, in particular its coven of four witches. Traditionally the witches of the north and south were goodies, while the east and west were the bad ones. In this slot version from Microgaming partner Triple Edge Studios, they’re all pretty much as dubious as each other. On the way to possibly winning one of four jackpots, players get jumbo blocks and free spins to look forward to.

Sisters of Oz uses a 5-reel, 4-row grid, with 20 fixed paylines to land wins on. The location is Oz’s famous yellow brick road. The one Dorothy traipsed along, meeting three traveling companions on her way to the Great Wizard. The original movie was full of musical theatrics, and despite being released in 1939, it is still considered one of the greatest films ever. Good, family entertainment.

Well, the slot version isn’t quite so wholesome. There are no green-skinned, wart nosed witches here. All four sisters in this rendition of the classic story look like they’re on loan from the Playboy mansion. Imagine Hustler magazine did an Oz-themed photo-shoot and you’ve kind of got the picture. Players will either go for the chesty, bedroom eyes or find it a cheese overkill. From time to time a breathy voice randomly says something like ‘Alluring’, in a final act of seduction.

Sisters of Oz can be played on any device, by selecting bets from 20 p/c to $/€25 per spin. For a jackpot slot, the stats are quite user friendly, starting with an RTP rating of 95.83%. Hits come on a regular basis as well, so players can expect a win every 3.501 spins, or 28.56% of the time. Volatility has been measured as medium, though most of what we covered in this paragraph is probably of little interest to many jackpot chasers.

Pay symbols come in two forms, 5 low-value potion bottles and 4 high pay witches. The witches come in different colours – red, green, purple, blue, occasionally winking flirtatiously. As to values, a line of five witches is worth from 2 to 18 times the stake. At least three of a kind is needed to form a winning combination, left to right from the first reel onwards.

Sisters of Oz Jackpots: Features

Sisters of Oz - Mega Jackpot triggered

Naturally, the fixed jackpots are the main showpiece in Sisters of Oz, but players also get jumbo blocks and free spins to help keep them entertained.

First up, the four witch premiums appear on the reels in three sizes – 1x2, 1x3, and 1x4. At random on a base game spin, the middle three reels synchronise and spin together. Any high-value symbols then spin as 3x4 jumbo blocks, while low symbols or book scatters land as 1x1 between the jumbo blocks. Synchronised reels land first, to build a bit of anticipation, followed by reels 1 then 5.

The golden book symbol has two jobs in Sisters of Oz – scatter and wild. As the wild, it substitutes for any pay symbol to help make a win. As the scatter, 3, 4, or 5 in view award 5, 7, or 10 free spins respectively. As well as award free spins scatters also payout 2x, 10x, or 100 times the stake on top.

During free spins, the centre 3 reels are always synchronised, so only 3x4 jumbo blocks land on them. High or low pays can appear as jumbo blocks, though never the book scatter. However, book scatters landing on reels 1 and 5 add three free spins. Also, all line wins are doubled during the free spins feature.

At any stage of the game, bonus symbol overlays appear at random on regular symbols. These are collected, granting a chance of triggering the jackpot wheel. When activated, players are presented with a 12 segment wheel, guaranteeing 1 of the 4 prizes - Mini, Minor, Majoir, or Mega jackpots worth 15x, 50x, 500x, or 10,000x respectively.

Sisters of Oz Jackpots: Verdict

They say a scantily clad woman can sell anything. If that’s the case, Sisters of Oz should have no trouble pulling in the punters. The line-up of temptresses might be racier than the Playboy range of slots, but Sisters of Oz’s style outshines its substance most of the time. There is little game-wise to get excited about, and without the Mega jackpot attached the whole venture feels like a waste of time.

On a positive note, Triple Edge Studios has created a nice looking slot. The animations are smooth, the graphics are super clear, practically photorealistic, and the sound effects add to the atmosphere. Well, apart from the cringy one-word voice overs. The studio has done a decent enough job of creating an attractive, adult version of Oz to spin in.

The gameplay is average though. Jumbo symbols on the middle three reels are nothing new, and the low payline to grid size counts against it. However, players into the presentation of the theme and a possible 10,000x payday probably won’t be too bothered about that. Wins are frequent enough to keep the game moving, and free spins are there with their synchronised reels to display the full talents of the premium symbols.

Sisters of Oz is an okay option for players keen on chasing a fixed 10,000x payout, possessing attributes that will charm some, while being completely over the top for others. If jackpots with cleave sounds appealing, Sisters of Oz pours it on like nothing else.

Good

Sisters of Oz has the looks and the gameplay is not bad, but the well-worn formula lacks the spark of innovation that might have made it something more.
